I offer a free 15-minute phone call for parents, carers, or young people who would like to find out a bit more before starting therapy.
This is an opportunity for us to talk through what’s been going on for you or your child, begin to make sense of things together, and answer any questions you might have. If this then feels like the right fit for you, we can arrange an assessment appointment.

When you feel ready, the next step would be to arrange an assessment appointment.
This is a 90-minute session where we take some time to really understand what’s been going on. Together, we’ll think about:
what things have been feeling difficult recently
any important experiences or background that might be helpful to know
getting a sense of who you are beyond what’s been difficult, including the things you enjoy and what everyday life is like
what we might want to work towards together in therapy
This session helps me build a clearer picture of your situation, so we can think together about what kind of support is likely to be most helpful moving forward.

Following the assessment, there is the option of a therapeutic summary letter. This is a written overview of what we discussed, helping to bring everything together in one place. It usually includes the main themes we’ve talked about, an early understanding of the difficulties discussed, and some ideas about next steps.
Some families find it helpful to have a clear written summary after the assessment, especially as a lot of information can be covered in one session. With your consent, the letter can also be shared with other professionals involved in your child’s care (e.g. school, GP, or CAMHS) so the wider network around them can have a shared understanding of what’s been going on and how best to support them.

During the assessment, we’ll think together about whether Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) might be the best fit for what you’d like support with. You can find a little more information about these approaches below.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based, practical talking therapy that helps reduce symptoms of mental health difficulties like anxiety and depression. It focuses on how your thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and behaviours are all linked and influence each other in both helpful and unhelpful ways. In therapy, you explore these patterns and use CBT techniques to break unhelpful cycles and build healthier ones.
For most mental health difficulties, CBT is usually offered as a structured course of around 12–20 sessions, although the exact length can vary depending on individual needs.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy that helps people process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. It works by helping the brain reprocess difficult memories so they feel less overwhelming and less “stuck,” using a combination of recalling aspects of the memory while also engaging in bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping). This process can help reduce the emotional intensity linked to past experiences and support a more balanced way of thinking and feeling about what happened.
The number of sessions can vary depending on individual needs and the complexity of the difficulties. Some people may need only between 6-12 sessions for a single trauma, while others may need longer-term work when experiences are more complex or longstanding.
